Global logistics giant DHL Group has announced a major €300 million investment plan aimed at strengthening trade and logistics infrastructure across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The multi-year plan will be implemented through DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, and DHL Supply Chain — with a focus on expanding networks, upgrading gateways, and improving transport capacity in emerging cities that are becoming trade hubs under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to DHL’s Global Connectedness Tracker, Sub-Saharan Africa recorded a 10% year-on-year increase in trade value during the first half of 2025 — the highest growth globally, surpassing North America and Latin America.
“Despite global volatility, Africa continues to show resilience and momentum. Our investment reflects confidence in the continent’s trajectory and DHL’s commitment to driving inclusive growth,” said John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express.
Strengthening key industry solutions
DHL Global Forwarding will channel part of the investment into supporting Africa’s industrial, agricultural, and healthcare logistics.
This includes enhancing cold-chain systems for perishable exports, expanding capacity for energy and industrial projects, and upgrading temperature-controlled transport for the life sciences and healthcare sectors.
“Customers are navigating shifting trade patterns and tighter regulatory requirements, so reliability and visibility matter more than ever,” said Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Middle East & Africa.
Meanwhile, DHL Supply Chain will focus on adding capacity for transport-led solutions and expanding its healthcare logistics network.
The division plans to introduce more temperature-sensitive facilities to support critical medical deliveries and fast-moving consumer fulfillment across the region.
